PolyOne launches low odor talc-filled Polypropylene for neutral-smelling Vehicle Interior

PolyOne, a premier provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, has launched Maxxam LO, a low odor talc-filled polypropylene, which is specially designed to help OEMs meet vehicle interior air quality (VIAQ) standards in underhood automotive HVAC applications. The new material offers lower VOC emissions and consistently achieves odor testing results of 3.0 per VDA 270.

The customers, today, link the car odor with harmful emissions, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and are increasingly valuing VIAQ. OEMs have felt the need to create a neutral-smelling interior. Maxxam LO reduces noxious odors while still maintains its performance and aesthetic.

Different countries have started introducing regulations and guidelines regarding acceptable levels of chemical concentration in automobiles. The chemical emissions testing and reporting is now a requirement for most major automotive manufacturers.

PolyOne developed Maxxam LO grades can be customized to achieve a wide range of physical and mechanical properties to suit the specifications of any OEM.

Jim Mattey, global marketing director, Performance Products and Solutions, at PolyOne, said, “We’re helping our customers address current trends with a low odor product that can withstand the rigors of underhood specifications. This new product underscores our commitment to formulating solutions for tomorrow’s automotive needs.”

PolyOne Corporation, with revenues of $3.2 billion in 2017, meets the needs of the customers in diverse industries around the globe by creating value through collaboration, innovation and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
